Oxford based Furniture Painting by Kate (formerly  Kates Shabby Chic) is a bespoke service that began 10yrs ago after being encouraged by friends to start up as a business. I’ve had an interest in painting furniture from my teens, around some 30 years ago now! I would up cycle old furniture we had at home making the most of what was available. I continued to paint furniture up into adult hood, finally making the decision to turn it into a business.

What I love to do is to take old pieces of furniture and bring them back to life by using painting techniques of all different styles and colours. Why replace perfectly good quality, solidly made furniture when all it needs is a little TLC and updating. In the current financial climate not many of us have the money to replace furniture so this is the next best thing at a fraction of the cost. Up cycling your old furniture is also a great way of being environmentally friendly. Also, it’s a great option if you’ve been handed down a family heir loom that’s really not your thing but you just can’t let it go! You’ll be surprised what can be achieved with some paint and a little imagination.
